read moreThe Qiddiya Investment Company has announced that Saudi Arabia’s first artificial surf wave pool is to be developed as part of the giga project’s planned Aquarabia water theme park.
Located in the heart of Qiddiya City on the outskirts of the Saudi capital of Riyadh, Qiddiya’s master plan includes residential neighbourhoods, green zones, cultural spaces, schools and medical facilities being developed as part of the Kingdom’s plan to diversify its economy and improve the quality of life for its residents.
Its leisure components include a Six Flags theme park, esports venues, a multi-use stadium and a motorsports track. When operational, Six Flags will operate both of the theme parks.
To be known as Surftopia the surf pool will use Endless Surf wave technology, developed by WhiteWater. This state-of-the-art system employs pneumatic caissons to generate customisable waves, catering to surfers of all skill levels - from novices to seasoned professionals. It allows for waves to be produced every eight to 16 seconds, ensuring a dynamic and continuous surfing experience.
Surftopia is a highlight among Aquarabia's 22 rides and attractions, five of which are world-firsts. The surf pool measures measure 180 metres by 73 metres and holds over 10,000 cubic metres of water. Its design includes a canyon-style backdrop and rock facade, enhancing the immersive experience for visitors.
Reports indicate the attraction will be open before the end of the year.
