Sanderson Group acquires more than 80% equity shareholding in new Malaysian theme park

The Sanderson Group, experts in the design and construction of themed attractions, has announced an increase in its equity shareholding in Malaysian attraction RSG MAPS Sdn. Bhd. to more than 80%.

Group Chief Executive Steve Sanderson and senior executive Peter Sanderson have both been appointed to the board of Directors of RSG MAPS as part of a corporate restructure.

RSG Maps owns a 49% stake in Animation Theme Park which is a co-developer (along with PCB Developments) of the RM520 million (US$129 million) Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS), in Ipoh, Malaysia.

MAPS is billed as Asia’s first animation theme park and will feature 40 attractions in six zones themed on well-loved characters including the Smurfs, Megamind, The Croods and BoBoiBoy.

As part of the Sanderson corporate restructure, Steve Sanderson has accepted a position on the Animation Theme Park Board of Directors and will be part of the ATP management committee tasked with overseeing a further RM 60 million (US$15 million) investment in additional entertainment and attractions within the theme park.

MAPS is scheduled to open in December 2016.

The Sanderson Group is based on Queensland’s Gold Coast and in Malaysia.
