read moreAfter three years of planning and preparation, 2014 is already seeing see Qatar move into the next phase of development as the country progresses towards hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Tournament organisers have begun issuing tenders with five stadiums expected to be in different stages of construction by the end of 2014.
In addition to the tenders, other recent developments in preparation for the tournament include:
Appointment of IMG and Amsterdam Arena as stadium operations consultants. They are to perform technical reviews of each stadium on aspects including safety and security, maintenance, technology integration, catering and commercial strategies, at every design phase
Qatar will begin issuing tenders for the first of five stadium projects in the first quarter of 2014
Appointment of KEO International as general engineering consultant and AECOM as design consultant, working with Zaha Hadid Architects on design and delivery for the Al Wakrah Stadium
The release of a tender for the construction of a FIFA-compliant prototype training site.
Commenting on Qatar's preparations for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, IQPC Middle East Business Development Director Noel Greenway states "these developments have created a big buzz in the market with vendors lining up to put forth their offerings to the architects, consultants and owners that are working on the stadium projects and other supporting infrastructure sites in Qatar."
IQPC Middle East is the organiser of the World Stadium Congress 2014, being held in Qatar from 19th to 21st May 2014.
The conference will host senior officials involved with design and material selection for Qatar's upcoming stadium and training site projects, as well as other selected projects from rest of the world, including Russia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Brazil.
