Lodging plans to expand the precinct’s potential this week, Campbelltown City Council are anticipating that the venue, located in the suburb of Leumeah, will become the Macarthur region’s sport and entertainment capital.
Proposed events include music, cultural and food and wine festivals; open-air concerts; firework displays and motorsport stunt shows in a program of up to 46 non-sporting events a year, as well as more than a dozen home fixtures for new A-League team Macarthur FC.
Commenting that the success of last month’s Crusty Demons live show pointed to the untapped potential of the precinct, Campbelltown Council City Lifestyles Director Jenny Franke told the Macarthur Chronicle “Leumeah has been identified within the NSW Government’s Glenfield to Macarthur Urban Renewal Corridor plan as a sports and entertainment hub for the region.
“Leveraging of recent successful festivals and events like the Super X Australasian Championships, Christmas Carols, Crusty Demons and major sport events; the current development application will streamline the approval process and help to attract more large scale events.”
Planning documents suggest the precinct, which includes the athletics track and stadium car park, could stage five music acts a year.
The plans are currently on public exhibition and will be determined by the Campbelltown Local Planning Panel.
The Wests Tigers NRL team currently use the stadium three times a year.
Campbelltown Council has recently been seeking a naming rights sponsor for the Stadium.
