read moreThe popular Pop-Up Parks series returns to Alice Springs this year, providing opportunities for families to connect for some free fun in the great outdoors.
The first takes place on Friday, 18th March, from 5.30-8pm at Flynn Drive Oval in Gillen. As well as a Girl Guides BBQ, food vendors, children’s games and more, the unveiling of a new women in sport mural will take place at the Flynn Drive Oval event, and attendees will be able to try their hand at, and sign up for, local cricket teams.
An initiative of Alice Springs Town Council, supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company, each event will give attendees the chance to try something different.
Other events will take place on 22nd April at Albrecht Oval, 26th August at Rhonda Diano Oval and 30th September at Ross Park.
NT Major Events Company Chief Executive Tim Watsford notes “the Pop-Up Parks series is a great example of grass roots community events that help people connect with others in their area.
“These events are free, and help Alice residents get out and enjoy their beautiful environment. Gatherings like this can provide support and connection, which have become even more vital for us all after the last couple of years, but are especially important for families. Being a parent can sometimes be a lonely, isolating role, but at Pop-Up Parks you can meet others on the same journey.”
Alice Springs Town Council Event Coordinator Rosie Denton adds “The Pop-Up Parks series is a great way for the local Alice community to get out and explore their suburban parks. Each event focuses on a different local sport and aims to encourage new sign-ups and get everyone to have a go. There will be fundraising BBQs, food vendors, entertainment and lots of free activities for the kids. It’s a great opportunity to come down and mingle with your local community.”
