Now Vodafone changes to the Hisense Arena
July 14, 2008

Melbourne's Vodafone Arena has been renamed the Hisense Arena.

Making the change as of 1st July, the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust (MOPT) has entered into a six year naming rights deal with the emerging consumer electronics brand.

Established in 2006, Melbourne-based Hisense Australia Pty Ltd is the local subsidiary of Hisense Company Ltd of Qingdao, China. Hisense Company Ltd. was formed in China in 1969 and has become a leading global manufacturer renowned for consumer electronics and household appliances, including LCDs, air conditioners and refrigerators.

Hisense Arena was built in 2000 as the home of spectator sports such as basketball, netball, dance sports, cycling, gymnastics and tennis. In 2007, 355,000 patrons visited the arena for sport and entertainment.

The venue is the home of Victorian cycling, the Melbourne Vixens netball team and the Crazy Johns South Dragons basketball team.
