Newcastle to upgrade Lambton Swimming Centre
Newcastle City Council has commenced plans to upgrade its Lambton Swimming Centre with the advertisement of a tender for the design and construction of an aquatic playground at the facility.
The tender (No. 2011/014T) is for a centralised play structure with large tipping bucket, water jets, concrete splash pad and waterslide.
The tender is the first part of a plan to redevelop the Lambton Swimming Centre into a contemporary aquatic and recreation centre as part of a plan to address falling attendances and financial losses.
The Council is losing around $1.5 million a year on its five pools, and now plans to spend more than $30 million upgrading them over the next decade.
The Council's Manager of Place Management Services, Deb Alterator says it is hoped the Lambton project will become a community drawcard, stating "we're looking at how this water playground will really start to bring families back into the area (and) we're trying to see how the area can be utilised a little bit more.
"We're looking at something that's really going to be quite exciting for that area."
For more information contact Danny Antcliff of Newcastle City Council on 02 4974 2936.
Tenders are invited and will be received up to 2pm Tuesday 3rd May 2011 for the design and construction of an aquatic playground at Lambton Swimming Centre (Tender ID Contract No. 2011/014T Aquatic Playground - Lambton Swimming Centre).
Enquiries must be directed to Danny Antcliff on telephone 02 4974 2936.
