NBL Goes Mobile with Official Apps
Developed in partnership with MOBIsports, the new NBL appsâ will enable basketball fans to follow all the action from around the league on their mobiles and will even use cutting edge technology to stream audio of selected games live, as well as live match video in High Definition.
The NBL is set to launch the Official NBL Mobile Application aimed at increasing the engagement of NBL fans through Smartphones. The Official NBL Application, which is available for $1.19, will provide users with Breaking News, Livescores (including Push Notifications), Player Stats, Fixture lists and direct access to the NBLâs social media sites on Facebook and Twitter. The Official NBL Application will soon offer the option of a monthly subscription fee and will see the NBL really making its mark in mobile technology delivery.
Users will still get all the features of The Official NBL Application, plus they will also be able to listen to a Live Radio Broadcast of one match per week thanks to BPM Media, and watch the NBLâs weekly Vodcast which provides a full discussion of each roundâs action.
In the near future the app will provide HD video coverage of a minimum of two live matches each week thanks to ONE HD.
The NBLâs General Manager of Sales and Marketing Aaron Flanagan explains that âthe league is really excited to be in a position to release the Official NBL Mobile Application range.
âIn recent years it has been very difficult for fans and participants to consume or engage with the league. Today, we are now in a position to provide our fans choice, whereby they are able to enjoy games on free to air television through ONE HD and a one hour highlights show on Ten and ONE.
âWith the launch of the Official NBL Mobile Application range, our fans will now be able engage and interact with the league wherever they are via their mobile. Our league has a young, passionate and genuinely tech savvy fan base,
âSmartphone technology has taken sports engagement to a whole new level and our fans will be able to watch live games, listen to live radio broadcasts and share their league experiences and thoughts with other fans with social media integration.
âStrategically for our league this has been an important next step and MOBIsports has delivered a solution that we believe will provide our fans a smartphone experience equal to that of any sport in this country.
âAs the season evolves we will look to add more personalised Club features and work with current and potential sponsors on application integration opportunities.?
MOBIsports Director Dave Richardson said he felt the new apps would be incredibly exciting for the hundreds of thousands of basketball fans in Australia, explaining âa we know, mobile technology is changing at a rapid pace, and we feel that these applications will put the NBL in a terrific position to acquire a new generation of fans.
âSmartphones have opened the door of sport to fans like never before. NBL fans really will be able to live and breathe the sport and interact with it in whole new way. These applications will literally put the sport of basketball in Australia in the hands of the fans.?
The NBL apps will be available for iPhones via Appleâs iTunes store on 17th December. Versions for Android, RIM and Symbian phone users are also being developed with release dates to be announced shortly.
Once those releases are made in the coming months, the official NBL apps will then be available on all major operating systems.
