read moreA man has been charged by NSW Police following his arrest after using a tractor to plough up areas at the Dunedoo Golf Course in central western NSW.
NSW Police will allege that a 34-year-old man drove a tractor towing a disc plough across the Dunedoo's only golf course on the night of Tuesday 27th April causing extensive damage.
A video of the course taken after the incident shows the extent of the damage, with greens and four fairways completely ploughed.
Following the incident, Dunedoo Golf Club President, Mark Gallagher was reported as saying "it's devastating for the club and the community.
"It looks like a paddock that's just been worked up for the first time in many years to get ready to put in a crop."
The small town of about 800 residents has suffered fire and drought over recent years, with Gallagher adding "it's pretty devastating to see the state of it, photos don't really show the effect."
Following the incident the man has been granted conditional bail at the Mudgee Local Court, charged with five offences including possessing an unauthorised firearm, after NSW Police seized two unregistered weapons from his house.
Gallagher said the golf course was run by volunteers, noting "we're such a small club - the course is all done with volunteers, everyone does so much work on the course, it was looking a picture."
Having secured many new members last year during the height of the pandemic, he went on to say "golf is thriving since COVID-19. We have been getting a lot of new players because during Covid, golf was one of the only sports you could play."
