Laserforce moves to protect laser gaming intellectual property

Laserforce moves to protect laser gaming intellectual property
September 17, 2014

Brisbane-based laser tag/gaming developer and operator Laserforce has moved to protect its intellectual property, successfully requesting that the Australian Patent Office undertake an examination of an Australian innovation patent submitted by P&C Micros, trading as Zone Laser Tag Systems.

As a result, P&C Micros has had their Australian innovation patent on an ‘entitled achievement and reward system for indoor laser tag’ revoked.

A statement from Laserforce explains “the Ceasing Notice has been issued and as a result P&C Micros can no longer rely on their innovation patent for any patent infringement action.”

The Australian Patent Office revoked the innovation patent on the basis of Laserforce having ‘prior art’ (in most systems of patent law, prior art [or background art] constitutes all information that has been made available to the public in any form before a given date that might be relevant to a patent's claims of originality. If an invention has been described in the prior art, a patent on that invention is not valid).

Laserforce’s statement continued “Laserforce is pleased with this result as Zone Laser Tag were using dubious marketing tactics to claim achievements as a patented Zone industry exclusive feature.

“Being an Australian innovation patent, this was completely untrue. Now that it has been revoked a wrong has been righted.”

Laserforce strongly advises investors to question any manufacturer who claims to have a patent on any laser tag features, and request to see the feature being used in operation before buying.

Laserforce added “’achievements’ is a revolutionary new feature because it gives players a whole new reason to play laser tag.

“Players unlock and collect achievements by completing challenges such as playing over 100 games or taking out all your opponents base targets - just like modern video games.”

The business highlights that the key advantages of Laserforce achievements are:

• Developed at the Laserforce HQ and tried and proven in operations at the world's longest running laser tag site.

• Operators have complete flexibility to invent and create their own achievements to suit their site needs.

• If you choose Laserforce you will get achievements with your system.

• Tied together with a new fully animated touch screen members kiosk and a global ranking website iplaylaserforce.com, it acts as a launch pad for even more exciting next-gen developments (soon to be released).
