Land acquired in Alice Springs for new home of Tourism Central Australia

Land acquired in Alice Springs for new home of Tourism Central Australia
July 6, 2022

Lot 274 Town of Alice Springs has been acquired by the Northern Territory Government for a new purpose-built home of Tourism Central Australia.

Situated adjacent to the Stuart Highway and Schwarz Crescent intersection on the old Shell Depot site, the new home will include a Visitor Information Centre creating a purpose-built central point for tourists in close proximity to the National Aboriginal Art Gallery. It will also include parking for large vehicles on the edge of the CBD.

The site is a strategic location which provides high visibility and direct access to the Gallery via a short walk. It will position TCA as the entry point for drive tourists activating the CBD with significant foot-traffic.

Design and construction tenders are targeted for release in 2023.

Acquiring this land marks the next major milestone for the Anzac Hill precinct.

The Gallery is the key attraction for the precinct which will include open, family-friendly community green space, the Kwatye Water Play Park, and the new purpose-built home for Tourism Central Australia. It will feature shaded pathways, lighting and landscaping to connect the various elements of the precinct together and to the CBD. Taking full advantage of the prime location will maximise benefit for local businesses.

Territory Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Nicole Manison advises “this is such an exciting announcement for Alice Springs. Making the home of TCA central will attract thousands of new visitors to the town and leverage it as Australia’s Inland Capital.

“Alice Springs is a must-do destination and already has so much to offer for tourists. Investing in this new precinct will give many more reasons to visit the Territory which will have positive flow on benefits for local businesses.”
