A new brand of innovative fabric architecture structures suitable for multiple sports uses (such as cricket, hockey, Futsal/football and tennis) as well as for aquatic centres, gyms, spectator grandstands, skate parks and changing rooms look set to be installed at a wide range of locations across Australia.

SMC2 specialise in the design and construction of innovative buildings mixing a glulam frame and a UV-proof tensile membrane cover that provide a protective and comfortable space for year-round sport in all weather conditions.

The concept has been successful in Europe for the last 10 years with a peak point last year when the company signed its biggest contract (€6 million) with the West-Provence Region in France for a 9,800 metre2 covered athletics court in Miramas (pictured above) which can accommodate 5,500 spectators.

2014 also saw the company deliver a covered multi-purpose hall in Manosque in southern France including four Futsal courts for 5-a-side games, three Padel courts (a game mixing squash and tennis), a restaurant, a bar-lounge and a business space - pictured below.

In 2013, SMC2 signed a brand new training facility for the Toulon Rugby Club, also in southern France, where former Wallaby James O’Connor currently plays and for whom Willy Mason was a former team member and All Black legend Tana Umaga was the General Manager. SMC2 has provided a training facility of a type that can be adapted to any sport club’s needs - pictured below.

In Australia, SMC2 has harnessed the 30 years of experience in sports court civil construction by partnering with Daryl Merchant and his team at Dynamic Sports Facilities. Dynamic Sports Facilities as a locally based partner, will construct the sporting facilities and install the SMC2 structures. SMC2 and Dynamic Sports Facilities are working with National and State Sporting Organisations, including Cricket NSW, to design innovative multipurpose indoor training facilities in locations that are expected to experience significant population growth.

SMC2 constructive solutions are adapted to all kind of sports and their design and materials give them an architectural aesthetic for projects that have a public visibility. SMC2 provide clients with tailored, sustainable and contemporary solutions from the concept phase to the construction and are also suitable for storage domes, industrial hangars and school playgrounds.
