Holey Moley opens new attraction in Wollongong

Holey Moley opens new attraction in Wollongong
July 21, 2018

The Funlab Group has opened its latest Holey Moley mini-golf cocktail bar in Wollongong.

Located on the lower level of Wollongong Central, the colourful 18-hole mini-golf course, cocktail bar and karaoke rooms is the 11th Holey Moley created by Funlab.

With Melbourne having been the most popular of all 10 Holey Moley’s during the last 12 months, with more than 300,000 games of mini-golf played, Holey Moley Brand Manager Maleik Edwards explained “we like creating experiences which are a little out of the ordinary.

“We are really keen to see how Holey Moley Wollongong goes (as) if the community really loves us there is always the opportunity to bring the other brands.”

Across each of Funlab’s brands - Strike Bowling, Sky Zone, Holey Moley Golf Club, Archie Bros. Cirque Electrique and their escape rooms - which now welcome in excess of three million customers per annum, and which generates in excess of $50 million in revenue each year – are based on delivering “a social experience”.

Often described as the “company dedicated to the science of wow”, Funlab Group Chief Executive Michael Schreiber explains “the essence of Funlab is that fun is infectious and our mission is to create ‘wow spaces’ where the world can experience fun at the next level.”

The new Wollongong attraction has 18 holes mini golf holes with a pop culture theme.

Advising that the most popular are the Simpsons-themed sensation of 742 Evergreen Terrace, the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones and a Teevel Knievel hole for putters willing to try and recreate a famous Evil Knievel stunt, Edwards adds “they are designed for people to take a photo on Instagram.

“We have two courses of nine holes. It is designed so you can come in and do nine or 18. Also you can book out nine holes for a private event.

“On a weekend we can have anything from kids parties in the morning to bucks and hens parties in the evening. We are very flexible. We want to have something for everyone and be as accessible as possible.”

The attraction is aimed at both families and youg adults, with Edwards adding “families are welcome right throughout the day but it is very much an adult venue at .

“We call Holey Moley ‘funtainment’. When we started Holey Moley we wanted to do more than going around and knocking balls through some windmills. We wanted to provide a fun venue with great drinks, really, really nice cocktails and good food.”

Funlab's Michael Schreiber was the subject of a feature in the March/April 2018 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
