read moreWith Vietnam looking to return international tourism to pre-pandemic levels the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism is currently hosting a series of promotional events on Australia’s east coast.
Organised by the Department, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney, the ‘Roadshow Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh Tourism in Australia 2023’ promotion has been held in Sydney on 12th May and Melbourne on 15th May before its completion in Brisbane today (17th May).
Attracting delegates from agencies, travel companies, media and partners from Australia, along with 20 Vietnamese representatives from flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, travel agencies including Ben Thanh Tourist, as well as hotels and resorts of Ho Chi Minh City, the roadshow has set out to enhance engagement and create business opportunities between Australian and Vietnamese travel businesses to meet and discuss tourism partnerships.
Providing an insight into famous destinations as well as traditional music performances, the promotions are including information on new tourism products and business events.
With the Sydney event held at The Jackson Sydney Harbor Luxury Cruise and the Melbourne event held at the Crown Promenade Hotel, roadshow participants have been able to take part in a wide range of activities such as collecting special publications and gifts from Vietnamese tourist destinations, drawing on Non La (palm-leaf conical hats), making To He (figurine toy), and enjoying performances put on by ethnic musical instruments such as Dan Bau, Dan Tranh, and Dan T-rung.
Vietnam Airlines is operating direct air routes to the majority of the other nine destinations that Australians visit the most, such as the US, the UK, India, and Indonesia, making it easier for Australian travellers to travel from Vietnam to the other popular tourist destinations worldwide.
In 2019, nearly 300,000 Australians visited Ho Chi Minh City and more than 130,000 travellers came to the city last year, accounting for 3.5% of the total number of visitors to the metropolitan area.
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Vietnam is among the top 10 favourite destinations for Australian tourists, ranking just behind destinations including New Zealand, Indonesia, the United States and the UK.
In September, Ho Chi Minh City will host the 17th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC 2023) - the largest international tourism event in Vietnam and Mekong sub-region.
