Harry Potter theme park unveiled in Tokyo ahead of opening in June
April 26, 2023

Warner Bros. Studios Japan has unveiled its Harry Potter theme park in Tokyo at a media preview ahead of its scheduled opening on 16th June 2023. The park is themed on the popular Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films and based on the famous novels by British author J.K. Rowling

The park, located in Tokyo's Nerima Ward, is being built on what was the 30,000-square meter site of Toshimaen park, formerly one of the largest amusement parks in the capital, which was closed in August 2020 after nearly 100 years.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter is a brand-new attraction offering fans the chance to “step behind-the-scenes of the spellbinding movies and discover secrets of the Wizarding World.”

This will be the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world and the first Warner Bros. Studio Tour to open in Asia. Building on the success of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – the Making of Harry Potter which has welcomed over 17 million visitors since opening in 2012, the Studio Tour Tokyo will feature exclusive sets only available at this location.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will provide fans the ultimate opportunity to journey behind the scenes of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films to learn about the remarkable world of film production.

The Studio Tour will invite fans to step into authentic sets, see spellbinding costumes and come face to face with magical creatures while learning moviemaking secrets. Visitors will journey through iconic locations from the Harry Potter series, as they enter the Great Hall of Hogwarts, board the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 ¾, venture into the depths of the Forbidden Forest and explore many more sets yet to be revealed.

The media and about 30 local elementary school students were invited to see a replica of Hogwarts Castle's Great Hall, an iconic building that served as the stage for many of the adventures embarked upon by Harry and his friends.

The students experienced various features of the hall, such as animal-shaped candle holders, its flagstone floor and life-sized statues of the characters.

Hand-crafted by filmmakers, the sets have been created using the original methods and techniques, allowing visitors to see up-close the talent and craftmanship that went into one of the most successful movie series of all time.

In addition, fans can get hands-on in a range of interactive experiences. Visitors will be able to take a seat on the Hogwarts Express and experience green screen technology journeying to the wizarding school, see themselves as a moving portrait in the halls of Hogwarts and even step into the crowd of a Quidditch match.

The magical day out will be completed by stopping for a refreshing tankard of Butterbeer, the famous wizarding drink, in the Studio Tour’s Backlot. Visitors will also be able to sit down for a meal in one of the Studio Tour’s cafés which will serve British-inspired menus and a range of magical sweet treats.

There will also be a huge range of Wizarding World gifts, souvenirs, stationery and much more to buy in the world’s largest Harry Potter shop with many items only available at the Studio Tour.

Tickets to the Studio Tour must be booked in advance for a specific time and date, allowing all fans to enjoy the world of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts to the fullest without the crowds.
