Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently visited the theme park to announce a 15th July opening date for the US$500 million ‘Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ attraction, unveiling the Hogwarts™ Castle structure that will form part of the experience.
At the event Prime Minister Abe stated “we cannot wait for the July 15 opening.
“‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ will be a wonderful addition to Universal Studios Japan and will contribute to energizing Osaka and the local economy.”
The new attraction is similar to the one that opened at Universal Orlando Resort in 2010, and features rides, immersive environments and outlets based on the ever-popular Harry Potter books and films. As well as being able to explore Hogwarts™ Castle, ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ will include the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™ ride, the Flight of the Hippogriff™ family ride, themed dining, retail experiences and street entertainment.
Universal Studios Japan is hoping that the new experience will help it build on the 10.5 million visitors it received in last financial year, an improvement of 7.7% from the previous year and the second-highest figure since it opened in 2001.
Universal Studios Japan has also launched a dedicated ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’” website www.usj.co.jp/harrypotter within the official Universal Studios Japan website.
