read moreGympie Muster has revealed it will be using state-of-the-art radio frequency identification tags (RFID) wristbands to allow patrons to not only get into the festival but to also pay for food and beverage and retail items.
The new wristbands will see the Muster's 12,000 festivalgoers waving their wrists at bars and stalls to pay, eliminating long lines and having to dig into their pockets for cash.
Attendees will be able top up their wristbands at deposit centres around the festival and to get back any cash they haven't used at the end of the four-day festival.
Gympie Muster Executive Director David Gibson says “we’re constantly in search of ways to make the Muster experience a little bit more enjoyable for our Muster Mates and bring down the barrier of logistics so everyone can really just enjoy the artists and the atmosphere we create, and not be burdened by drink tickets and all of those bottlenecks."
RFID technology is already heavily utilised at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo and Tomorrowland overseas, and used at Splendour In The Grass to offer a direct hook-in to social media.
Along with a brand new app, Gympie Muster will have a slew of wifi vans around the festival grounds so it's easier than ever to jump online without getting kicked off the overburdened mobile phone networks constantly.
The Gympie Muster is being held from 25th to 28th August with headliners including Kasey Chambers, Troy Cassar-Daley and Beccy Cole.
