First Aboriginal Tourism Strategy Report Card released by Tourism NT

First Aboriginal Tourism Strategy Report Card released by Tourism NT
February 10, 2022

The Northern Territory Government has released the first report card tracking progress on the Aboriginal Tourism Strategy 2020-2030 for the year ending June 2021.

The report card reveals the Northern Territory remains on track to delivering a sustainable Aboriginal tourism sector and build on the Territory’s strengths and cultural assets.

Northern Territory Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Natasha Fyles notes “our first Aboriginal Tourism Strategy report card shows Tourism NT is working to identify and prioritise key Aboriginal tourism sector infrastructure projects in alignment with the Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission recommendations."

The report card highlights achievements delivered in partnership with Aboriginal communities, operators and industry groups to develop the sector.

The report outlines support to develop strategic planning for Aboriginal owned businesses through the Aboriginal Tourism Grants Program in addition to dedicated marketing campaigns and case studies showcasing the Territory’s diverse Aboriginal cultures.

In 2020, there were 109 Aboriginal tourism businesses operating in the Territory.

The Territory Government’s Aboriginal Tourism Strategy 2020-2030 sets a vision to position the Northern Territory as the Australian leader in Aboriginal tourism with a focus on sharing the beauty, stories and culture of the area.
