Fawkner Leisure Centre closes for $37 million redevelopment

Fawkner Leisure Centre closes for $37 million redevelopment
April 14, 2023

Merri-bek City Council has announced the closure of its Fawkner Leisure Centre as of Friday 7th April with the facility to undergo a significant $36.8 million redevelopment and reopen for the 2024/25 summer season.

Merri-bek Mayor Angelica Panopoulos and Councillor Sue Bolton visited the Centre on its last day of operation, and enjoyed reading messages from visitors and members on the brick wall of the entry way.

The redeveloped of the centre by the Council (the former City of Moreland) aims to provide a more accessible and environmentally friendly district-level facility providing more options for all ages and abilities to participate in a healthy and active lifestyle.

One of six aquatic and recreation centres owned by Merri-bek City Council in Melbourne's inner north, the redevelopment of the Fawkner Leisure Centre is part of the Council’s 20-year Aquatic and Leisure Strategy adopted in 2018.

During the redevelopment, members can maintain their membership and use our other Merri-bek sites - Coburg Leisure Centre, Brunswick Baths or Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre.
