Construction commences on Shoalhaven’s inclusive Boongaree Rotary Nature Play Park
April 23, 2021

Construction on the first stage of Shoalhaven’s inclusive Rotary Nature Play Park is underway with the early childhood zone to include accessible adventure play equipment and numerous opportunities for nature play, including sand and water play, climbing logs, bridges, tunnels, cubby house, tractor and more.

The current works will deliver a flying fox, climbing nets, sensory play, family picnic and BBQ spaces, amenities with lift and change facilities, exercise equipment and many more elements to create an exciting and inclusive play space for the community and visitors to enjoy.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley, acknowledged the importance of the project, as it will provide equal access and opportunities for play to everyone.

Mayor Findley notes “the park will provide an inclusive play space with various play opportunities for all age groups including swinging, sliding and climbing challenges.

“It’s great to see this project progressing well and once complete, will provide an important hub for the community to come together in play and recreation.

“While the park is looking near complete, it will for now remain located within an off-limits construction area for the safety of the community. The youth zone and nature play park sections are anticipated to open officially by the end of this year.”

Grahame Sweeney, Chair of the Rotary Club of Berry Nature Play Park Committee is pleased with the progress to date and adds “Rotary’s vision of developing an exciting place for children of all ages and abilities to play, exercise and have fun, is well underway. We are all watching it come together and waiting in anticipation for it to be finished.”

Stages 2 and 3 of Boongaree - the pump track and new skatepark are progressing to the preparation of tender for construction phase. Construction is expected to commence next financial year.

Shoalhaven City Council are delivering the Rotary Nature Play Park in partnership with the Rotary Club of Berry, the Federal Government Building Better Region fund and the NSW Government Building Stronger Country Communities fund and Everyone Can Play grant.
