read moreThe presentation of the fourth 2020 Australian Fitness Award has today seen the Cockburn ARC (Aquatic and Recreation Centre) in Western Australia announced as the national winner of the not-for-profit Fitness Business of the Year award.
The City of Cockburn facility is considered is a ‘next generation’ facility combining elite sport, education and community sport and recreation in one world-class facility, strategically designed to achieve their vision of “more people, more active, more often”.
The unique integration of an elite AFL sports club and tertiary education provider offers a multitude of benefits to the community including, local jobs, training opportunities and hands-on education opportunities for university students, as well as year 11 and 12 students.
In addition to enriching the lives of their community through health and fitness and unique educational opportunities, the Cockburn ARC team pride themselves on delivering a service vision that exceeds industry standards and customer expectations.
As part of Cockburn ARC’s commitment to service excellence, they have implemented a service improvement program to ensure the team are consistently providing outstanding quality service across communication, professionalism, personal appearance, presentation and supervision.
The service improvement program employs a third party to assess the team on a monthly basis against the service streams in order for Cockburn ARC to ensure they can continually improve their service delivery and reflect best practice industry standards and workplace culture.
Fitness Australia has not only recognised Cockburn ARC for their excellence in service and delivery, they have also been recognised for their outstanding achievements that have greatly impacted their community as a whole.
These achievements include, exceeding the average of visitors per day feasibility study projections by 41%, generating an added $30.3 million to Australia’s output through annual operations, offering 500 university trainee positions and hosting a community concert with more than 8,000 attendees, indirectly generating $187,000 for the local economy.
Congratulated the Australian Fitness Award winners today during a virtual ceremony, Fitness Australia Chief Executive, Barrie Elvish and said the award recipients’ stories of commitment and excellence were outstanding.
Elvish advised “every Award winner has demonstrated the upmost dedication to the health and wellbeing of their communities through consistently delivering high quality services in a professional and safe manner.
“Furthermore, it is humbling to hear the stories of our members going above and beyond to connect and support their local communities, to create a space that is much more than just an exercise facility.”
An expert panel, consisting of a diverse group of industry representatives, conducted a thorough assessment of each finalist across a range of areas including professionalism, customer care, knowledge and skills, safety, and leadership to select the category winners.
The annual Australian Fitness Awards are the only national awards program dedicated to the fitness industry and received a record 2,000 nominations across eleven categories for individuals, businesses and community groups.
The next virtual award ceremony will take place on Thursday 14th May and will announce this year’s Fitness Educator of the Year.
