read moreThe Victorian Government has announced the recipients of the $1.4 million Coastal Public Access and Risk Grants Program for 17 programs across Victoria.
The 2024-25 program will deliver grants up to $150,000 each to 17 projects that support initiatives to reduce coastal risk and improve beach access.
Projects are being delivered by coastal Crown land managers, including volunteer committees of management and local governments.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council will receive $150,000 to renew the Birdrock Beach access stairs at Mount Martha. This includes refurbishing existing stairs, replacing eroded stairs, and replacing and upgrading retaining walls
The Walkerville Foreshore Committee of Management will use their $150,000 grant to deliver safer pathways and accessible beach entry, addressing key recommendations in an accessibility audit of the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve
The Borough of Queenscliffe will receive $51,000 to replace stairs at the Narrows 'Dog' Beach access point, which were damaged in the September 2024 storm event.
Other grant recipients will use funds for access track, stair and ramp replacements, handrail upgrades, signage audits and upgrades and beach access feasibility studies.
Since 2015, the Coastal Public Access and Risk grants program has delivered around $8.6 million in funding to coastal Crown land managers.
