City of Sydney aquatic facilities attract a million users in seven months
February 16, 2017

The hotter months have seen crowds flock to the City of Sydney’s aquatic and recreation facilities, with more than one million customers passed through the turnstiles of the City’s five fitness and aquatic centres in just seven months – the fastest recorded time the milestone has been reached in any financial year.

Paddington resident Eric Hung was delighted to become the one millionth customer at Prince Alfred Park pool on Wednesday morning for his daily dip.

Hung commented “I’ve been coming to Prince Alfred Park pool for the past four years. I love the design of the place and the fact that it’s outdoors.

“It really does feel like an oasis and it’s very easy to forget that you’re in the middle of a city like Sydney.”

Prince Alfred Park Pool was re-opened in 2013 following a major upgrade and has since won eight awards recognising excellence in architecture, design and landscaping.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore stated “with the scorching heatwaves we’ve experienced in Sydney this summer, we’ve had record numbers of locals and visitors in for a swim in our city pools.

“International visitors are increasingly flocking to our pools alongside residents and workers – whether it’s the classic Andrew Boy Charlton pool overlooking the harbour or the award winning Prince Alfred Park Pool next to Central Station.

“We’ve followed up the record-breaking summer with more investment, installing new cardio equipment at the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre in Ultimo and the Cook + Phillip Park in Sydney’s CBD.

“With five months of the financial year still to run, we’ve already broken the record for most visits to our city pools.

“Our aquatic and fitness centres are world-class, giving our residents the chance to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle at an affordable price.”

Nick Cox, Chief Executive of Belgravia Leisure, which manages the facilities, said he was proud the organisation managed all five of the City’s pools – Andrew (Boy) Charlton, Cook + Phillip Park Pool, Prince Alfred Park Pool, the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and Victoria Park Pool.

Cox explained “we’re thrilled to manage some of the finest pools in the country and have a range of exciting events and initiatives on the horizon.

“Prince Alfred Park Pool will be hosting the Little Heroes family fun day on Saturday 11th March, including novelty races, a petting zoo, sausage sizzle, lucky prize draws, face painting and swimming lessons for children with a disability”.

The City inspired 360 membership program provides access to all five fitness and aquatic centres, with three categories designed to suit various customer needs.

360 Active and 360 Pro now include the Face2Face program, which offers the customer five, free personal training sessions,
