read moreVisitation at 80 of China’s major theme parks declined by 0.33% in 2022 - welcoming over 7.57 million guests - despite the opening of 10 new major attractions, most notably that of the Universal Beijing Resort.
As indicated by a newly-released report from the Institute for Theme Park Studies in China, despite the fall in visitation, the nation's theme parks achieved revenue growth to reach 15.35 billion yuan (US$2.13 billion) - a year-on-year increase of 15.29%.
Advising that 2022 was the toughest year for China's theme parks, Institute President, Lin Huanjie highlighted the growth of an "industrial chain" of domestic theme park brands including Fantawild, Happy Valley and Haichang Ocean Park.
As reported by news portal ThePaper, among those included in the study 24 belong to the Fantawild group, eight to Happy Valley, seven to Rongchuang and five to Haichang - accounting for 55% of the total number of the nation’s theme parks.
The growth of localised theme park Ips is, according to Lin, lifting revisit rates.
China has been witnessing a booming tourism recovery in the first three quarters of the year with domestic tourist arrivals reaching 3.674 billion, increasing 1.58 billion compared to the same period in 2022, up 75.5% year-on-year.
Theme park developments are also ongoing with the construction of two theme park planned north of the Beijing Universal Resort.
