Broken Hill’s new netball courts reopen with Rebound Ace surfaces

Broken Hill’s new netball courts reopen with Rebound Ace surfaces
June 30, 2025

Broken Hill City Council’s new netball courts have officially reopened with the $5 million upgrade including the construction of 10 new netball courts with Rebound Ace surfaces, along with new lighting, fencing, and shelters.

California Sports Surfaces launched its new Rebound Ace Sports CoolTop acrylic sport surfacing material in August 2021 which features technology to lower the surface temperature on sports courts, or coated areas, utilising new generation Arctic Pigments coating materials.

The construction of the netball upgrades were undertaken by Jirgens Civil Pty Ltd.

The project was funded by Broken Hill City Council and the NSW Government through the Resources For Regions program.

The reopening was accompanied by a gala event which featured an exhibition match between some of the city's top players, Net Set Go sessions for kids, acknowledgement of new Netball Association Life Members, and a variety of food and drink stalls.

Mayor Tom Kennedy was elated with the upgrades, and said Council would continue to seek funding streams to upgrade the club house in future and possibly even provide an indoor court.

Mayor Kennedy noted "this is an important sporting upgrade for our city. Netball encourages an active and social lifestyle, and provides a platform to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and foster teamwork amongst participants.

"The Netball Association now has world class courts from which to grow the sport in Broken Hill, and I'm sure everyone can agree this investment in our city's netballers is money well spent."

Mayor Kennedy said everyone involved in the project had produced a fine outcome for Broken Hill adding "I'd like to acknowledge Jirgens Construction for their great work, Public Works for their project oversight, and all Council staff who contributed to this project.

"I'd also like to thank the NSW Government for helping to fund this upgrade through the Resources For Regions program, and also thank the Netball Association for their input and guidance throughout the planning of this upgrade."
