The ARI, which represents aquatic and recreation professionals in NSW, has been developing the initiative for several years, and ran a pilot program at 13 facilities last year.
Led by qualified fitness professionals, these classes will be held in aquatic and community facilities, and will focus on:
• Falls prevention through improving the strength and balance of participants
• Combining wet and dry activities water-based classes improve cardio vascular health and range of movement, while land based classes improve load-bearing capabilities
• Removing barriers
• Reducing costs and making classes more accessible to seniors
• Creating a social atmosphere Improves mental health, and makes the classes more enjoyable for participants
The ARI will explain more about the funding at Breakfast Seminar on Tuesday 8th September at the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre (RALC).
Attendees will receive an overview of the Program as well hear from a previous recipient of the funding and will be seeking interested venues for the Active Ageing Funding to register their interest on the day.
The Breakfast Seminar will also give delegates the opportunity to ride RALC’s Surf Ryder Simulator at the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre and to learn about the second round of funding grants for the ARI Active Ageing program.
