Closed in July to carry out regular maintenance and address leakage issues, the Council has recently identified additional works that involve the replacement of tiles, which has delayed the maintenance program.
As a result, the 50 metre pool will be enclosed in fencing during works for public safety.
Closed at the end of July and originally scheduled to reopen as of Sunday 8th October, pool was drained for the maintenance works.
The Council advise that “patrons of the facility can expect some disruptions, such as increased noise and reduced access”.
All other facilities, including the 25 metre outdoor pool, 25 metre indoor pool, toddler pool, the Flowrider, Coaching Zone, fitness facilities, trampoline park and kiosk will remain open.
The Council advise that “depending on weather and favourable site conditions”, the pool will reopen in December.
Court case against former lifeguard adjourned
A 23-year-old man charged with filming children in the changing room of the Tobruk Pool has had his case adjourned to September 29.
As reported by The Cairns Post, Corey Ian Cox, of Clifton Beach, a former lifeguard at the pool who has since been dismissed, was charged in November last year after allegedly filming in the changing rooms at the pool.
He initially appeared in court on 8th December last year on one charge but was subsequently charged with 10 more offences.
Cox is on bail for all 11 charges, including four of indecent treatment of a child under 16, two of making observations or recordings in breach of privacy genital or anal region, and five counts of making observations or recordings in breach of privacy.
