read moreThe Queensland Government is rolling out a number of ActiveKIT initiatives across the state to keep Queenslanders active and healthy.
Since launching six months ago, the $4.1 million ActiveKIT program has funded 39 initiatives.
Queensland Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe notes “ActiveKIT is investing in innovative ways to make it even easier for Queenslanders of all ages and abilities to reach fitness goals and connect with their community.
“All 39 ActiveKIT community initiatives are either operational or in the final stages of development.
“ActiveKIT’s partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland is sharing knowledge, harnessing innovation and leveraging technology to help Queenslanders stay active and healthy.”
ActiveKIT funded initiatives include:
Minister Hinchliffe highlighted “Digital technology and ActiveKIT are a convenient way to find the perfect sport or active recreation activity to suit just about everybody.
“ActiveKIT is also taking new rugby league programs to remote Indigenous communities including Lockhart River, Coen and Wujal Wujal to boost personal bests wherever Queenslanders live in our vast State.
“We know active Queenslanders are healthy Queenslanders.”
Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive, Dr Robyn Littlewood, welcomed the rollout of ActiveKIT initiatives and added “Some Queenslanders are missing out on the benefits of exercise while trying to balance the commitments of 2022.
“We know 59% of adults and 46% of kids aren’t active enough to make a noticeable difference to health and wellbeing.
“The ActiveKIT program aims to improve these rates by investing in innovative ways to stay fit and healthy.
“We are excited to support these projects to actively boost Queenslanders’ health and wellbeing in city, regional, rural and First Nations communities.”
All ActiveKIT programs are expected to be fully operational by 30th June 2022.
