2020 International Mountain Tourism Alliance focuses on recovery of tourism post COVID-19
The 2020 International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) Annual Conference held on 18th November in Guiyang saw more than 300 people from international organisations, IMTA members, tourism industry experts, scholars, and entrepreneur representatives gather at the headquarters of IMTA to conduct in-depth discussions on the recovery and revitalisation of the tourism industry following COVID-19.
This Annual Conference hosted by IMTA received powerful support from United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), The Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF), World Travel Agency (WTA), The World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), ASEAN-China Centre, and other well-known international organisations and associations.
Since the beginning of this year, COVID-19 has caused an unprecedented impact and influence on the global mountain tourism industry. From a global perspective, the pandemic has not been effectively controlled, and it is still raging in some countries and regions. As such, the global tourism industry is facing many challenges and uncertainties in the future.
The 2020 IMTA Annual Conference concentrated on the theme of "The Path of Mountain Tourism Development in the Post-COVID World". During the annual conference, the participants focused on this major topic, and discussed ways to promote the revitalisation and quality of mountain tourism after the pandemic, while offering thoughts, guidance and means to support global mountain tourism management and promotion of the global tourism industry.
The annual conference adopted a hybrid approach including the combination of online and offline, the connection of on-site and off-site, and across social media and news platforms
