World’s best sports leisure buildings shortlisted among categories at World Architecture Festival Awards
The World Architecture Festival's announcement of its shortlisted projects for its annual award ceremony includes significant designs covering sport, infrastructure and leisure/tourism.
In the sport category, Perth’s Optus Stadium is among 11 shortlisted projects, along with a Bamboo Sports Hall at Panyaden International School in Thailand - built made entirely of bamboo to accommodate 300 students - and the Atlanta Falcons’ environmentally conscious Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the USA.
Other recently completed sporting buildings under consideration include a selection of some of the world’s most creative and innovative stadium projects.
In the hotels/leisure category, 17 projects under consideration include the krakani lumi standing camp located in wukalina (the Mount William National Park) and the Freycinet Lodge Coastal Pavilions at Coles Bay - both in Tasmania.
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is the world’s largest architectural event dedicated to celebrating the very best in design and architecture projects and spans 32 categories ranging from residential and infrastructure, hotel and leisure, to commercial use, education and religion.
Australian projects or projects being led by Australian architecture practices are well represented across the 536-strong shortlist.
The WAF will take place on 28th to 30th November in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where leading architects and designers behind each project will present to international juries to compete for awards.
