The Victorian Government has announced that World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will stage a Super Show-Down event at the MCG in October this year.

Set to be the largest wrestling event ever to be held in Australia, eclipsing the Global Warning event which welcomed 56,743 people to Etihad Stadium in 2002, the event will be held Saturday 6th October, the week after the AFL Grand Final.

The WWE event will bring the biggest ever roster of the sport-entertainment brand’s wrestlers Australia including John Cena, Ronda Rousey, the Undertaker, Triple H and Australia’s own Billie Kay and Peyton Royce of The Iconics.

WWE Super Show-Down was secured by the Victorian Government’s Major Events Fund, which was recently boosted by $4.5 million in the Victorian budget 2018/19.

Visit Victoria is collaborating with TEG Dainty and WWE in bringing the Super Show-Down to Melbourne.

Announcing the event, WWE Chairman and Chief Executive Vince McMahon stated “WWE Super Show-Down will be an epic event. Our Partnership with Paul Dainty reflects our ongoing commitment to the market and provides an opportunity to deliver an event of this magnitude.”

TEG Dainty President and Chief Executive Paul Dainty added “WWE Super Show-Down will be one of the biggest sports and entertainment events of the decade.

“This once-in-a lifetime spectacular will showcase Australia to a global audience of millions in one of the world’s most iconic stadiums.”

In an Australian first, the show will be broadcast live on the WWE Network while a crowd over 100,000 is anticipated for the event
