read moreA study of remuneration, demographics and employment benefits within the sport and recreation sector in Western Australia has revealed that the average (median) salary for senior management roles within the industry is in the range from $100,000 to $120,000 a year.
The 2014 Sport and Recreation Remuneration and Benefits Report also advises that rhe average (median) salary for is $70,000 to $80,000 per annum for operational management roles, $50,000 to $60,000 for operational support roles (at coordinator/officer level) and $40,000 to $50,000 for operational administration roles.
In terms of employment gender balance within the respondent organisations, 51% of the workforce are female and 49% male. However, males occupy 70% of the senior and operational management roles within the industry.
The Report follows the Western Australian Department of Sport and Recreation last year engaging Apex Human Resources Consultancy to undertake two key projects: the Remuneration and Benefits Survey and a Recreation Industry Learning and Workforce Development Survey.
This project has resulted in the collection, analysis and reporting of key data related to the demographics, levels of remuneration and range of benefits of the employees engaged in the sport and recreation industry in Western Australia.
Other key findings of the 2014 Sport and Recreation Remuneration and Benefits Report are:
• 72% of the workforce are engaged on a full time basis, with 28% either part time or contracted, 71% of the part time workforce are female;
• 50% of the workforce possess a length of service of five years or less and almost 60% is aged between 26-45;
• The role of ‘development officer’ is the most common among the respondent organisations, representing 15% of the workforce;
• The average (median) full time annual salary within the industry falls at the very high end of the $50,000 to $60,000 per annum range;
• The most common benefits utilised by organisations within the industry comprise mobile phones, IPAD/Laptop’s & flexible hours; and
• Less than 5% of employees receive a bonus as part of their remuneration package, and none receive health care.
