UK sporting executives to address dinner event at NSC Sports Investment Summit

UK sporting executives to address dinner event at NSC Sports Investment Summit
September 30, 2024

Set to explore how Australia can transform sport to attract greater investments, the upcoming NSC Sports Investment Summit is to address pressing questions about whether the sports industry is adequately funded for success ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics.

As part of the Summit, the Transforming Sport Dinner will feature a distinguished lineup of global sports leaders, including chief executives from Sport England and UK Sport who will join senior Australian sporting figures from the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia and Commonwealth Games Australia, creating a critical dialogue on how to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.

Sally Munday, Chief Executive of UK Sport, who has led transformative efforts in securing government and National Lottery funding for Team GB’s Olympic successes, will share insights from her experience navigating complex funding landscapes. Under her leadership, Team GB achieved remarkable results at Tokyo 2020/21, and her strategies will inform Australia’s future as it seeks sustainable investments for its athletes.

Tim Hollingsworth, Chief Executive of Sport England, will discuss his innovative approach to sports funding. Hollingsworth has redefined the allocation of resources to focus on organisations that drive the greatest social impact, not just elite performance. His experience across multiple Olympic and Paralympic Games offers valuable lessons for Australia, particularly in addressing inequalities and broadening participation through sport.

As the UK sports industry faced its own funding challenges after the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, both Munday and Hollingsworth will reflect on whether the sports landscape is more sustainable today, and how the UK has innovated in prioritising Olympic sports amidst funding constraints, particularly relevant as the 2026 Commonwealth Games approaches.

Following their opening panel, the dinner will shift focus to Australia’s path forward.

Matt Carroll, Chief Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee, Cam Murray interim Chief Executive at Paralympics Australia and Craig Phillips, Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Games Australia will lead a vital discussion on the future of Australian sport, exploring what’s needed to ensure the country is ready to host a successful 2032 Olympics and build a sustainable sporting legacy.

The Transforming Sport Dinner will take place on 19th November followed by the NSC Sports Investment Summit on 20th November at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park and bring together global leaders to explore how strategic funding and innovative investment approaches can transform the future of sport in Australia and beyond.

The inaugural NSC Sports Investment Summit is produced by the National Sports and Physical Activity Convention (NSC) Events Team.
