Tree Top Walk carries its 2.5 millionth visitor
One of the Western Australia's most popular visitor attractions, the Tree Top Walk near Walpole has reached a major milestone in welcoming its 2.5 millionth visitor.
The walk, which opened in 1996, was designed to minimise the impact of humans on tingle trees with its see-through steel decking reinforcing the sensation of being high-up in a forest canopy.
WA Environment Minister Donna Faragher was at the popular tourist spot to congratulate Melbournians Liz Fletcher and Ben Bonolla for being the 2.5 millionth visitors and gave them a lifetime membership to the walk.
As Minister Faragher explained, "the Tree Top Walk is a focal point for the local region and one of the most sustainable tourism facilities in the world with about 160,000 visitors a year.
"To continue to excite the imagination of the tourism market and create a greater awareness of the area, the Department of Environment and Conservation opened the Walpole Wilderness Discovery Centre earlier this year."
