Tourism technology gets backing from Queensland Government

Tourism technology gets backing from Queensland Government
December 16, 2017

Innovative technology allowing the tourism industry to use multiple reservation systems without the expense of modifying their own booking system is under development in Cairns.

Tourism software developer Narnoo has received $100,000 from the highly competitive Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas Fund to create a booking integrations system and a mobile application for the existing Narnoo central media platform.

Director James Wells said 450 tour operators were using Narnoo as a one-stop shop to streamline the management and distribution of their marketing collateral.

Wells explained “developing a mobile solution will enable sales and marketing managers to do business more easily while they are on the road by updating product descriptions and images on the central media platform from their phone.

“Activity stream notifications will be integrated into mobile and desktop applications so travel desks and wholesalers using Narnoo are automatically notified if an operator has new images or products available to use.

"It will work in the same way a Facebook feed delivers notifications to your inbox so there is no need to pick up the phone or email distributors of your product to let them know that you have made changes.

“The new technology will be fully operational by June next year and will enable Narnoo to focus on software development to increase productivity in the tourism industry.”

Tropical North Queensland tour booking platform Travstar is trialling the new technology.

Director Jodi Nelson said it would allow Travstar to provide better priced packages by connecting directly to multiple suppliers giving immediate information on availability and current rates.

“Operators use a variety of reservations systems which meant we would have needed to develop our platform further to integrate with each one, but Narnoo will do the matching and integration for us saving expensive development costs,” he said.

Narnoo has already expanded its footprint outside the region with Destination Newcastle recently signing as a client.
