Tourism leaders to consider sustainability concerns at TTF Green Revolution Summit

Tourism leaders to consider sustainability concerns at TTF Green Revolution Summit
May 9, 2024

Tourism, transport and aviation leaders will gather in Sydney next week to discuss the urgent need to develop a local ‘green fuel’ sector and other sustainability challenges, at the Tourism and Transport Forum’s 2024 Green Revolution Summit.

With the themed ‘Innovate. Sustain. Advance’, the Summit is being held on Thursday 16th May at ICC Sydney.

Advising that discussions will focus on the critical need to invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which the industry is hoping to see significant support for in next week’s federal budget, Tourism and Transport Forum Chief Executive, Margy Osmond stated “we must develop a local SAF or ‘green fuel’ industry to safeguard the future of Australia’s tourism and aviation sectors and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

“As a long-haul destination, Australia cannot afford to be left behind other destinations like the USA, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Japan and others who are already leading the way in policies to support SAF and direct investment.

“We welcome the Federal Government’s progress so far, including the establishment of the Jet Zero Council, but we can’t be complacent about the urgent need for additional support, to achieve a greener future for aviation.”

The Summit will also discuss challenges such as making major events more sustainable, decarbonising public transport and expanding the use of technologies like electric vehicles and trackless trams.

Other topics will include increasing sustainability at Australian airports, protecting natural assets, and giving consumers more sustainable travel options.

The Green Revolution Summit will hear a range of industry leaders, including:

• Airbus - Stephen Forshaw, Senior Vice President - Chief Representative Australia, NZ & The Pacific
• Booking .com - Todd Lacey, Regional Manager, Oceania
• Graincorp - Jesse Scott, Chief Innovation & Growth Officer
• NRMA - Carly Irving-Dolan, Chief Executive, Energy and Infrastructure
• Qantas - Andrew Parker, Chief Sustainability Officer
• Taronga Conservation Society - Cameron Kerr AO, Chief Executive
• Transdev Australia & NZ - Brian Brennan, Chief Executive
• Venues NSW - Kerrie Mather, Chief Executive
• Virgin Australia - Daniel Dott, Head of Fuel & Aviation Decarbonisation
