Tourism coup for Western Australia with Coldplay to play one-off concert at Perth’s Optus Stadium

Tourism coup for Western Australia with Coldplay to play one-off concert at Perth’s Optus Stadium
May 10, 2023

The Western Australian Government and promoter Live Nation have announced that one of the world’s biggest bands, Coldplay, will hold a special one-off concert at Perth’s Optus Stadium on 18th November.

Set to return to Western Australia for the first time since 2009 as part of their current record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour, the performance is expected to attract thousands of interstate and international visitors to Perth, injecting millions of dollars into the Western Australian economy.

Being delivered by the Western Australian Government through Tourism Western Australia and VenuesWest, in partnership with Live Nation and Optus Stadium operator VenuesLive, the Australian-exclusive concert is seen as a major events and tourism coup for Perth.

Commenting on the concert, Western Australia Tourism Minister, Roger Cook stated “the (Western Australian) Government is incredibly proud to welcome Coldplay to Perth for this exclusive performance at the amazing Optus Stadium.

"This a massive coup for Western Australia. The Music of The Spheres World Tour has been one of the most highly sought after events for cities around the world.

"Apart from being a phenomenal live show and experience, Coldplay is going to attract thousands of international and interstate visitors to WA and inject millions of dollars into the State's economy.”

Live Nation Entertainment Vice President of Touring, Luke Hede, added “this partnership with the Western Australian Government is set to make history, by bringing one of the world’s most iconic and successful bands, exclusively to Perth in 2023.

“It’s hard to think of a better city for Australians to see Coldplay’s spectacular Music of the Spheres show, while making a weekend of it in our country’s sunniest capital city.”

The performance will be promoted nationally and in key international markets alongside travel packages designed to encourage visitors to stay longer and explore the state.

The Music of The Spheres World Tour has sold over six million tickets across Europe, North America, and Latin America since it began in March 2022.

Coldplay sold more concert tickets than any other artist last year as the band broke attendance records around the world.

Coldplay singer Chis Martin noted "we are so excited that we will be coming through Perth for one concert at Optus Stadium on November 18 this year and we really look forward to seeing you. We haven't been to Australia for too long and we are so excited to come back.”

Pre-sale of tickets will commence at 10am AWST on Monday 15th May, running until 9am AWST on Tuesday 16th May.
