Australasian venues strong performers in Pollstar’s Mid-Year concert rankings
July 16, 2018

Major venues in Australia and New Zealand have performed strongly in the first half of 2018, with Pollstar’s Mid-Year Touring Report showing a massive rise in ticket sales and attendances for live entertainment.

Qudos Bank Arena has been Australia’s top performing venue with 359,942 ticket sales, putting the Sydney venue as the 11th best performing global venue on Pollstar's Arenas Venues chart. The surge in ticket sales compares with the venue recording 113,437 ticket sales for the first half of 2017.

By comparison, in the first half of 2017, Sydney's ANZ Stadium was the top performing Australasian venue with 150,113 ticket sales.

Driven by Ed Sheeran’s record-setting 18 concerts in Australia and New Zealand in March and April, that sold a record-breaking 1 million tickets, other major acts including Bruno Mars, the Foo Figthers, Roger Waters, Harry Styles, Fall Out Boy, Robbie Williams and Queen + Adam Lambert have drawn in concert goers between January and June this year.

In terms of concert grosses, Australia has followed the global trend of rising ticket prices.

Asia’s only venue to feature was the Mall Of Asia Arena in the Philippines.
