Tasmanian hospitality sector continues to benefit from business events and conferences
January 4, 2024

Tasmanian business events and conferences have delivered a bumper 2023 for the hospitality sector with Business Events Tasmania having already locked in 67 conferences for 2024

Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff noted “Many people think of tourism as cruise ships and fly-in fly-out visitors, but business events are a major force in driving positive economic activity.

“Through our investment of $2.5 million over three years to attract more business events to Tasmania, we have a long-term pipeline of business events, securing jobs and providing certainty to local businesses while enhancing Tasmania’s brand.

“Business Events Tasmania has already locked in 67 conferences for 2024.

“That’s thousands of visitors experiencing all that Tasmania has to offer, eating and drinking Tasmania’s world-class produce, and supporting local businesses directly.

“Business visitors and conference delegates spend up to $1370 a day and stay for almost five days per person, per trip.

“Each year, this spending includes $31.6 million on food and beverages, $64.4 million on accommodation, $8.2 million on activities and $10.3 million on transport.

“We also know more than 25% of these business event visitors bring a partner or companion with them.”

Elevate Catering is one of many businesses reaping the rewards of Tasmania’s busy business events calendar. Catering exclusively for the paranaple centre in Devonport, Elevate Catering employs about 20 staff on a full-time, part-time or casual basis, with staffing numbers increasing beyond this for larger events.

Premier Rockliff, said the company was a great example of a Tasmanian business that is benefitting from the State’s annual $200 million corporate events industry.

Elevate Catering is run by renowned chef Hussein Tas. Hussein cut his teeth with Neil Perry’s Rockpool Catering, Rick Stein and a 5-star European caterer Kaffer Party Service München in Munich.
