read moreThe NRL Grand Final will once again be played in Sydney's Accor Stadium this season following an agreement between the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) and the NSW Government.
The multi-million dollar deal, that will also see the NRL Women’s Grand Final played on Sunday 1st October, was struck despite reported interest from both the Victorian and Queensland Governments.
However, the single-year deal leaves the location for future Grand Finals in doubt, with the ARLC continuing to make long term hosting of the NRL’s season finale contingent on the NSW Government investing hundreds of millions of dollars on upgrades to suburban NRL stadiums across Sydney and a new stadium for Penrith.
Speaking of the arrangements for the 2023 Grand Finals, ARLC Chairman, Peter V’landys said it was important to give fans certainty, commenting "we have worked closely with the NSW Government to reach an agreement for the 2023 Grand Final.
“We are respectful of the new Labor Government’s priorities at the moment and their focus on the state budget, which is why we have agreed a short-term deal which gives all stakeholders certainty about this year’s Grand Final, and provides all parties the time required to continue discussions about a long-term partnership,” he said.
Negotiations will reportedly continue for future Grand Finals with V’landys looking to secure funding for NRL venues across Sydney.
Tickets for this year’s Grand Final will go on sale on 2nd August.
