Sydney swim teacher charged over sexual abuse of young girls

Sydney swim teacher charged over sexual abuse of young girls
March 15, 2019

A 20-year-old swimming instructor has been charged with sexually abusing two young girls during lessons on Sydney's north shore.

Kyle Daniels allegedly abused an eight-year-old girl and a six-year-old girl on separate occasions at Mosman Council's Mosman Swim Centre last month.

Detectives from the NSW Child Abuse and Sex Crimes team arrested him at a home in Balgowlah earlier this week and took him to Manly Police Station.

Daniels was charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 years.

NSW Police said the man's employment at the swim school was previously suspended.

In a media conference, NSW Police Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec said the alleged victims had been brave, advising "he was engaged in teaching these young girls how to swim and it's alleged that the offenses took place during those lessons.

"It's alleged one of the incidents occurred inside the pool."

"We'll allege that they occurred over two separate days probably about a week and a half apart.

"The parents brought it to the attention of the swim school, who immediately suspended the instructor from teaching any further and police were called and commenced their investigation.

"I know he's been engaged on a casual basis as a swim instructor for at least two years."

Publisher's note: The Mosman Swim Centre swim school is managed by Aquatic Leisure Management, sometimes known as ALM. While this publication is also sometimes known as ALM we would like to highlight that we have, and have never previously had, any business or formal involvement with Aquatic Leisure Management.
