read moreSwimming Australia has partnered with fertility and women’s health experts City Fertility, to launch the ground breaking Ignite Athlete Female Health and Wellbeing Program presented by City Fertility.
Currently, women’s athlete programs do little to best manage female physiological differences or to incorporate needs specific to their wellbeing and hormones differences into training and competition programs.
The Ignite Athlete Program is set to break that stigma.
Leveraging off the back of City Fertility’s Ignite Athlete online platform, developed to provide support specifically for female athlete’s health and wellbeing. The innovative new program has seen City Fertility work directly with Swimming Australia and its athletes to further the awareness and knowledge of best practice women’s health through a range of initiatives, including content and educational resources.
Star Australian Dolphins trio Cate Campbell, Madi Wilson and Katja Dedekind have also joined the program as its inaugural ambassadors.
Swimming Australia’s General Manager of Performance Support, Greg Shaw, said the benefits of the program should extend beyond the elite high-performance level to the sport as a whole.
Shaw advised “we need to make people feel comfortable to talk about this, rather than shy away from it and expect our athletes to suffer in silence.
“It’s important to acknowledge that each athlete has unique challenges from a female health perspective.
“Our job is not to diagnose and treat, but rather surround them with as much support, education and knowledge as we can, driven by experts like City Fertility.
“The partnership with City Fertility will help us to not only extend current knowledge and learning to all levels of swimming, but it also provides our community with a network of experts that they can access to find the support they need to help manage their unique individual health challenges.”
