Surf Life Saving Australia recognised as Australia’s second most trusted charity

Surf Life Saving Australia recognised as Australia’s second most trusted charity
February 24, 2025

Surf Life Saving Australia has announced their ranking as Australia’s second most trusted charity in the annual national Charity and Not for Profit reputation conducted by RepTrak, formerly known as the Reputation Institute.

The result saw Surf Life Saving Australia achieve a reputation score of 94.2, the highest secured since the tracking began in 2011 and sees an improvement of three places over the last 12 months in the scoring system that measures areas such as respect, trust, admiration and purpose.

Surf Life Saving Australia now sits statistically on par with the first placed Royal Flying Doctors Service, who have been ranked number one for all but one year since the annual Charity and Not for Profit reputation survey began.

SLSA President John Baker noted that this ranking is attributed to “the meaningful contribution our organisation and members make to local communities around Australia” and praised the efforts of volunteer members who have contributed to this outstanding result.

Baker added “reputation and ‘brand health’ are key indicators of a vibrant and sustainable movement and we are both proud and humbled by this result.

“This report isn’t just about a number or a ranking. It’s about the selfless volunteers who give up their time to patrol, train and teach, and their willingness to put the safety of a stranger before that of their own.

“Thank you to our volunteers, supporters, and partners who make this movement what it is. This achievement belongs to all of you.”

Since it was established in 1907, Surf Life Saving has grown to be an essential part of Australian culture and communities. This result demonstrates the sustained trust and support from the Australian public for SLSA’s mission of saving lives, creating great Australians, and building better communities.

Over the past 12 months volunteer surf lifesavers conducted over 1.4 million patrol hours, performed 8,857 rescues and almost 2.5 million preventative actions.
