read moreNew Zealand's southern ski fields have benefitted from major spring snow falls in recent days, reinvigorate mountain conditions.
With snow falls augmented by snow making, NZSki General Manager James Coddington said a significant amount of snow over the weekend meant locals and visitors were making the most of the fresh powder on Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
Coddington explained "it's picture postcard winter skiing again, and with more (snow) in the forecast this week spring could provide us with some great skiing and snowboarding."
Coronet Peak received 18 cm of fresh snow on Saturday, and freezing conditions meant snow-guns had been 'blazing' since Saturday night.
The Remarkables has received 45 cm of fresh snow over the weekend, with Treble Cone recording 65 cm in recent days.
After limited early season snow on the South Island, Coddington added "we've waited patiently for these conditions, and it comes just in time for locals and visitors to ramp up those vertical metres before the end of the ski season in October."
The 2012 NZ ski season will is scheduled to end on the following dates:
Coronet Peak: 7th October
Mount Hutt: 7th October
The Remarkables: 7th October
Cardrona: 7th October
