Skidata looks to expand provision of people access solutions across Australasia
August 29, 2018

SKIDATA’s recent staging of its inaugural Australian and New Zealand People Access Conference at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium marks the start of a new era in the company’s offering of access control and revenue managements in the Australasian market.

A global market leader in the sector, more than 10,000 installations in more 100 countries use SKIDATA systems to enable the fast and secure access of people and vehicles to ski resorts, stadiums, airports, shopping malls, cities, spa and wellness facilities, trade fairs and theme parks.

In Australasia since 1987, when the technology was installed at the Mt Blue Cow (now Perisher) ski resort, SKIDATA is today used at all major ski resorts in Australia: Thredbo, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller as well as Perisher (backed by its US distributor), along with Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld and Wellington’s Westpac Stadium.

SKIDATA originated in Austria 41 years ago with their ground breaking electronic ski gates.

Today, the company has over 1450 employees spread around the world supporting a broad spectrum of proven customized solutions that guarantees every customer the optimal solution in order to maximise sales and to offer the best comfort.

It specialises in three business areas: parking - where it is a world market leader; ‘Mountain’ - where it is also a world market leader and inventor of the technology; and leisure – specialising in stadium, arena and theme park access.

Renowned for quality of build with all components across all markets it services, whole of life costs on SKIDATA installations are well below market average. In addition, its technology can be used with almost any ticketing package, integrating with 170 ticketing partners.

Global Partners
Globally, its impressive client list includes Sugarloaf Mountain, Brazil; Whistler Blackcomb, Canada; Hakuba Valley, Japan; Legoland Germany; Juventus Stadium, Turin, Italy; the Lokomotiv and Spartak Moscow Stadiums in Russia; Tissot Arena, Biel, Switzerland; Allianz Stadium, FC Bayern Munchen, Germany; Rajiv Ghandi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad, India; Disneyland, Anaheim, USA; Benfica Stadium, Lisbon, Portugal and Ski Dubai.

2018: Banc of California Stadium
In the past year the company has also teamed up with the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) to install the world’s most technologically-advanced access control entrance platforms in the brand-new Banc of California Stadium, located in the heart of Los Angeles.
SKIDATA’s efficient ticket verification system features the first-ever wireless turnstiles at its main gates and pedestals for premium entries.

Custom-designed for the 22,000-seat Banc of California Stadium, the innovative turnstiles are wireless and moveable, and can be operated in any location, at any time, using a rechargeable lithium battery and Wi-Fi connection.

The agnostic system launched for LAFC’s inaugural match on 29th April this year and provides a seamless and incredibly fast entry for fans and customers, quickly verifying tickets with 24 Flex Gate turnstiles, six premium Pedestals and more than 30 handheld scanners.

SKIDATA’s innovative turnstiles at LAFC’s Banc of California Stadium are wireless and moveable, and can be operated in any location, at any time, using a rechargeable lithium battery and Wi-Fi connection.

Previously installed with a hard-wired version of the turnstiles at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Skidata’s neutral platform can verify tickets through RFID and NFC, in addition to barcodes, helping LAFC move forward with its ‘mobile-first’ ticketing strategy and ensuring acceptance of all emerging and future technologies.

SKIDATA Australia
In Australia, SKIDATA partnered with Wilson Parking in 2004 to distribute itsparking products to the Australian market, with Wilson holding the Australian distribution rights until late 2016 when SKIDATA AG purchased the rights back from Wilson with a view to expanding services to the Australian market with their People Access products.

In October 2017, David Brown joined the SKIDATA team to launch the People Access business (Stadium and Mountain) in Australasia.

With a background in business development and management working with global organisations across varied industries, Brown has been learning about the needs of the venue management and attraction industries.

He explains “it’s a learning experience and to date an enjoyable one with engaged professionals in dynamic industries. I’ve met a lot of quality people who have been kind enough to give me their time and let me jump on my soap box and spread the SKIDATA word.”

Nationwide Support
The SKIDATA People Access product is a complete package backed by an Australian-wide service team. The luxury of leveraging its existing national parking technician and support structure is critical to providing a complete pre-sales and after sales service solution for its Australian customers.

All service requirements will be conducted by SKIDATA employees who know the equipment intimately and have access to spare parts and customer support right here in Australia.

As a result, the company feels that it can provide potential customers and ticketing companies with an extremely viable alternative to existing access providers in Australia.

SKIDATA’s access system ‘Handshake.Logic’ controls its world record holding ‘Flex.gate’ - a platform allowing the management of a single ticketing partner or several ticketing partners easily. This flexibility opens up opportunity and insures a venue can accommodate whatever the future may hold.

SKIDATA Flexgates can accept all forms of ticketing bar code, RFID, E-ticket, NFC, QR code, Bio and Facial Recognition. It holds the world record for speed of access with 2033 passes in on hour.

Its access system is FIFA certified - the only access control system in Australia to carry this accreditation.

SKIDATA also markets the SWEB Loyalty product to support stadium, attraction and mountain customers.

SWEB.Loyalty allows users to engage with theirur fan base and reward them for their loyalty. It’s currently being used by ski resorts, stadiums and sporting teams worldwide to great success.

A strong point of SKIDATA solutions is their ability to easily integrate within their own suite of products and with third party providers, including ticketing partners, POS vendors, other gate and turnstile providers, social media and broadcasters.
