Royal Life Saving forms committee to review the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations
November 25, 2016

Royal Life Saving Society – Australia has formed a National Aquatic Industry Committee made up of representatives from across the Australian aquatic industry whose first priority is a review the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO).

The Guidelines are being reviewed in sections with the order of review having been established by the Committee. Some sections of the current GSPO have been combined and others have been separated in the revised version.

The reviewed sections are being made available for comment, on the Aquatic Industry Safety Hub, from anyone within the industry prior to becoming finalised, with Programs and Lifeguard Supervision currently open for input.

Subsequent sections for comment include Aquatic Facility, Safety Equipment and Aquatic Safety Signage.

The request for feedback on each section is for a period of three months.

A statement on the Royal Life Saving website advises “an important stage in the development of any Guideline for Safe Pool Operations is the public comment period. The public comment period is usually open for two to three months.

“Anyone who feels they have something to contribute to a Draft Guideline should use the Public Comment Period to provide their view on its provisions.

“All comments are considered in detail by the relevant National Reference Group and or the National Aquatic Industry Safety Committee and, if necessary, further drafting is undertaken. Individual feedback is not be given by the Committee on the comments provided.”
