read moreThe City of Canning is moving ahead with plans to redevelop the Riverton Leisureplex, expanding the popular southern facility into an innovative fitness destination and community hub.
The redevelopment will see Tumblers Kids Gym at Riverton Leisureplex close permanently from 1st December, to be replaced with a new cycle studio, functional training areas and a personal training studio.
The facilities will also be revamped with new flooring, gym equipment, an improved music system, upgrades to the customer management system and body composition scales.
Additional group fitness options like spin classes, freestyle classes, functional training programs and kids’ fitness classes will also be available once the redevelopment is complete.
Canning Mayor Paul Ng said the closure of the childrens’ gym followed a strategic review, advising “over time and with the establishment of other similar privately owned children’s entertainment venues, visitation to Tumblers Kids Gym has significantly declined, so the City has taken the opportunity to look at how this space can best benefit the community.”
The Council has also allocated funding for the design for a new nature playground in the area between the Leisureplex and library.
May Ng added “the last time major work was completed at Riverton Leisureplex was in 2002. This redevelopment is set to position Riverton Leisureplex as an innovative community hub, benefiting from the Library upgrade which is now complete, and will provide new and improved services for our City’s residents in a more contemporary environment.”
The meeting rooms at the Leisureplex will also be converted into spaces for lease by health-related businesses.
Stage one of the redevelopment begins in December 2018 and the two other projects will be complete in March 2019.
The City of Canning has also recently passed resolutions to transform the Willetton Sports Precinct with improved sporting facilities, increased accessibility and better parking.
