read moreLooking to counter the occurrence of 'code brown' incidents in aquatic facilities, Recreation Aotearoa has today announced the launch of a new quality programme - Poo-safe.
The New Zealand association advises that the program is "focused on persuading patrons to do their business before they get into the pool (and that) Poo-safe aims to help our facilities avoid the dreaded ‘code brown’ and stay faeces free in 2021."
Faecal incidents are surprisingly common in aquatic centres, with Invercargill’s Splash Palace aquatic centre making global headlines in 2015 after a mystery defecator caused ‘code brown’ situations in its swimming pools on seven consecutive Fridays, forcing temporary closures and costing tens of thousands of dollars in time and clean-up costs.
While the incidents at the South Island facility did occur, Australasian Leisure Management reminds readers today is 1st April.
