Reclink welcomed to City of South Perth’s 27-hole Collier Park Golf
Facility manager Clublinks, Collier Park Golf and the City of South Perth have shared information on how Reclink Australia is offering programs at the 27-hole golf facility in the Perth suburb of Como.
Reclink, which provides sport and art programs to disadvantaged Australians to create socially inclusive, life changing opportunities, will is offering the opportunity to participate in golf as a stimulating recreational activity.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the nation, organisations like Reclink were faced with the challenge of sourcing socially inclusive activities for their clients whilst the community was isolating at home.
Reclink State Manager, Sarah Kitis, turned to golf as it allows her participants to enjoy the outdoors whilst maintaining social distancing.
After being approached by Kitis to see if we would like to be involved, Collier Park now has regular weekly visits from several Reclink participants and their registered carers.
One such participant, Andrea Ciccerelli, visits Collier Park Golf every Wednesday morning with his carer, Virod Jayathunga. He hires equipment from the Golf Shop and spends the next hour hitting golf balls down the driving range. Having tried several different activities through the Reclink network, Ciccerelli loves his new golfing endeavour.
Ciccerelli now looks forward to his weekly golf session, which he adds to his other activities that include swimming and a weekly art workshop delivered by service provider Workpower Australia.
Workpower carer, Jayathunga, says that the fitness and social aspects and the routine that activities such as golf provide, are crucial for building independence and to maintain the mental and physical wellbeing of clients.
He advises “it’s a beautiful setting and we love coming here each week.”
Reclink, whose programs create opportunities for improved health and wellbeing, education and employment outcomes for their participants, is currently in partnership with more than 80 community agencies in Western Australia.
Its programs create opportunities for improved health and wellbeing, education and employment outcomes for their participants.
