Queensland tourism operators urged to register for DestinationQ
Queensland Tourism Minister Kate Jones has urged industry representatives to register for the 2015 DestinationQ Forum being held in Townsville on 8th and 9th October.
Introducing the Forum, which this year has the theme, ‘Invest. Excel. Grow’, Minister Jones explained “the Forum is a great opportunity for industry and government to get together in the same room to discuss growing tourism in Queensland.
“The (Queensland) Government is committed to a partnership approach with the tourism industry in Queensland with the aim to invest, excel and grow the industry.
“Members of the tourism industry are invited to register their interest in attending this year’s forum.”
A selection process will ensure the Forum is attended by a range of representatives from all sectors, business sizes and regions of the Queensland tourism industry.
Minister Jones said a new partnership agreement with the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) committed to the following priorities:
• Invest – commit time, money and effort to ensuring the tourism industry is positioned to meet the expectations of visitors and maintains the support of host communities;
• Excel – deliver an exceptional experience for all visitors to Queensland, whether they come for a holiday, an event, a meeting or to study, and whether they are Australian or from overseas; and
• Grow – increase jobs and investment in the tourism industry, boost visitor expenditure in Queensland, and lift profitability of tourism businesses.
QTIC Chair Shane O’Reilly said that the Council wanted a productive relationship and strong partnership with the Queensland Government which was focused on growing tourism and its benefits across Queensland.
O’Reilly stated “tourism is vital for Queensland’s economy and it is good to see this is recognised by the Government.”
